Construction industry in MV hopes for economic turnaround - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's €370M Plan to Revive Its Struggling Construction Sector

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's construction sector is set for a boost in 2026 after years of decline. The regional government has allocated €370 million from special funds to support building projects. Officials expect the investment to help reverse recent losses and create new opportunities for skilled workers.

The construction industry in the region faced another difficult year in 2025. Turnover dropped by €80 to €100 million compared to 2024, marking the fourth consecutive year of decline. This loss was equivalent to the workload of around 400 to 500 skilled workers, putting further pressure on the sector.

However, 2026 brings cautious optimism. The government's €370 million injection, approved by Dr. Heiko Geue, the state's finance and digitalisation minister, aims to revitalise construction activity. Forecasters predict real growth of one to two percent next year, a significant shift after prolonged struggles.

Despite the positive outlook, not all companies will benefit equally. While larger firms may secure major contracts, smaller businesses could still face challenges in accessing the new funding.

The €370 million funding for 2026/2027 is designed to kickstart recovery in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's construction sector. After four years of falling revenues, the investment offers a chance to stabilise the industry and support jobs. The coming year will show how effectively the funds are distributed and whether growth meets expectations.
