Passengers using buses, trams, and trains within the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV) network will soon have to pay more for their tickets. Starting in August, fares will rise by an average of 5.56% in the districts of Altenburger Land, Burgenlandkreis, Leipzig, Nordsachsen, and Saalekreis, while Leipzig will see a 5.0% increase and Halle a 3.2% hike, the transport authority announced. The company cited soaring fuel costs and wage increases under collective bargaining agreements as the primary reasons for the price adjustments.

The MDV network covers the cities of Halle (Saale) and Leipzig, along with the districts of Leipzig, Nordsachsen, Saalekreis, Burgenlandkreis, and Altenburger Land. It also includes local rail services in Wittenberg and Anhalt-Bitterfeld, as well as the city of Dessau-Roßlau.
