Massive transport strike halts Fürth buses and subway on February 2
A 24-hour warning strike by the ver.di trade union will bring major disruptions to local public transport in Fürth on Monday, February 2, 2026. The walkout begins at 4:00 AM, halting buses and parts of the subway system for the entire day. Around 100,000 transport workers across Germany will join the action, affecting nearly 150 cities and regions.
The strike will completely shut down the Fürth section of the U1 subway line. Buses will run on a reduced 30-minute schedule, with only key routes operating where staffing allows. School transport will also face delays, though some reinforcement trips may run if drivers are available.
Infra's service centres and administrative offices will stay open, and emergency hotlines will remain active. However, updated timetables will not appear in the VGN journey planner, leaving passengers to check for last-minute changes. Travellers are urged to allow extra time and verify routes before setting off.
Beyond Fürth, the strike will impact around 149 other cities and regions across nearly all federal states—except Niedersachsen, where a peace agreement prevents walkouts. Deutsche Bahn services, including S-Bahn and regional trains, will continue as normal.
Public transport is expected to return to full operation by 4:00 AM on Tuesday, February 3.
The strike will cause widespread delays for commuters, students, and travellers relying on local transport. Normal service should resume early Tuesday, but passengers are advised to confirm schedules before travelling. The action forms part of broader industrial negotiations affecting municipal transport companies nationwide.
