Frost and old bridges cause roadworks on motorways - Massive €320M roadworks to snarl Berlin and Brandenburg traffic in 2026
Major roadworks are set to disrupt traffic across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, and Berlin in 2026. Autobahn GmbH has allocated €320 million for upgrades—€80 million more than last year—with projects ranging from bridge replacements to tunnel repairs. Drivers should prepare for delays as key routes undergo extensive construction over the coming months.
The largest investment will go to Brandenburg, receiving €181 million for its projects. The most costly is the Mülenfließ Bridge replacement near Rüdersdorf, budgeted at €221.6 million over three years. Meanwhile, resurfacing on the A10 between Freienbrink and Königs Wusterhausen, costing €81.3 million, is due to finish by late 2026. On the A13, a 6.1-kilometre stretch between Ortrand and Klettwitz will face closures from May to October, with repairs priced at €4.9 million.
In Berlin, the A115 Spanische Allee site will remain under construction until the end of 2027, running nine months behind schedule. The Feuerbachstraße tunnel on the A103 will also see €2 million in repairs from June to October, affecting traffic in both directions for up to three kilometres.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been allocated €76 million for its upgrades. Since October 2025, 12 of the 28 planned bridge projects have been underway, helped by a mild winter with little frost. Work on the Warnow bridge in Rostock and the A20 near Greifswald is progressing steadily. Five more bridges will undergo repairs in 2026, including a €7 million temporary structure over the Störwasserstraße on the A14 near Plate, starting in September. However, the A19 between Röbel and the Brandenburg border may suffer winter damage, potentially forcing speed limits.
The €320 million investment marks a significant increase from 2025's €240 million budget. Projects like the Mülenfließ Bridge and Berlin's A115 will extend into 2027, while others, such as the A10 resurfacing, are due to complete this year. Drivers in all three states can expect ongoing disruptions as construction continues across major highways.
