Hugh Jeffreys made a surprising profit after buying a bag of old Apple devices for just $75. The collection included iPhones, iPads, and iPods—some of which turned out to be far more valuable than expected. His quick purchase from an online seller led to an unexpected windfall.

The deal began when Jeffreys spotted a Facebook Marketplace listing for a mixed lot of 20 Apple gadgets. The seller claimed all devices were unlocked and in working order, though Jeffreys had no way to confirm this before buying. They met in a parking lot to complete the $75 transaction.

Inside the bag, Jeffreys found a variety of models: an iPhone XS, an iPhone 11, an iPad, a 5th-generation iPod, and an iPod Touch 2nd-generation. There were also 11 iPhones in total, though not all models were specified. While most devices functioned, a few needed minor repairs before resale.

Not everything was usable. Two iPads and an iPhone 7 Plus were locked, rendering them worthless. However, the unlocked iPhone XS alone sold for $100. Other items, like classic iPods and an iPhone 4S running iOS 5, also held surprising value. Jeffreys estimated the entire collection's worth at around $800—far exceeding his initial $75 investment.

After repairs and resales, Jeffreys cleared over $700 in profit. The transaction proved that even older Apple devices can retain significant value. His risk paid off, turning a small purchase into a lucrative return.
