Malaysian Aviation Group soars with RM137M profit in 2025 turnaround
Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG) has reported a strong financial turnaround for the year ending 2025. The company recorded a net profit of RM137 million, more than doubling its previous year's earnings. This growth came alongside improvements in service quality and fleet expansion despite earlier operational hurdles.
The group's net profit surged to RM137 million in 2025, up from RM54 million in 2024. Total revenue also climbed by 6 per cent to RM14.5 billion, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached RM1.6 billion—over double the RM788 million recorded the year before.
Operational efficiency played a major role in this performance. On-time flights rose to 73 per cent, a significant jump from 51 per cent in 2024. Cost discipline was another key factor, with expenses growing by just 7 per cent despite a substantial increase in capacity. The group expanded its fleet as part of its long-term strategy, adding 30 new narrow-body aircraft by the end of 2025. Wide-body aircraft were also introduced, though exact numbers were not disclosed. However, higher maintenance costs, particularly for engine overhauls, put pressure on cash reserves. MAG's reputation also improved, with Malaysia Airlines climbing to 27th place in the Skytrax World Airline Awards—up from 89th in 2024. This progress reflects the airline's efforts to enhance service quality and reliability.
The results mark a notable recovery for MAG after capacity cuts in late 2024. With stronger financials, an expanded fleet, and better operational performance, the group is positioned for further growth. However, managing maintenance costs will remain a challenge in the coming year.
