Major Thuringia roadworks to disrupt travel for weeks ahead

Several roadworks and closures are set to affect routes in the Thuringian region over the coming weeks. Drivers will face lane restrictions, full closures, and diversions on key roads, including motorways and local streets. The Highwald Tunnel on the A71 will close for maintenance in both directions on multiple dates. From June 15 to 19 and June 23 to 24, 2026, the tunnel will be shut toward Schweinfurt. Closures toward Sangerhausen will follow from June 22 to 23 and June 24 to 26, 2026. Drivers heading toward Schweinfurt must use diversion route U38, while those toward Sangerhausen should take route U9.

One-lane closures with traffic lights will also be in place on several roads. B 19 in Meiningen (Helba district), Dolmarstraße, will have restrictions until June 19, 2026, for utility work. L 3247 in Zella-Mehlis, Heinrich-Erhardt-Straße, will face similar closures from June 15 to 26, 2026. L 19 in Wasungen, Schwallunger Straße, will remain under one-lane control until June 30, 2026, due to retaining wall construction.

Short-term closures are also planned. L 1124 at the Aschenhausen – B 285 intersection will shut fully on June 14, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM for a vigil. K 92 in Vachdorf, Marisfelder Straße, will close one lane on June 18, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM for railway light replacement. L 2619 in Wasungen, Mehmelser Straße, will have a one-lane closure on June 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM for the same reason. L 1024 in Brotterode, Inselbergstraße, will have a one-lane closure from June 8 to 30, 2026, for underground utility work. B 62 between Benshausen and Zella-Mehlis will also have a one-lane closure during this period. The closures will disrupt travel for commuters and visitors in the area. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, use the designated diversion routes, and allow extra time for their journeys. Local authorities have confirmed the dates and provided clear guidance for affected roads.
