Maharashtra advances Nagpur-Goa expressway with land acquisition push
The Maharashtra government has taken a new step towards building the Nagpur-Goa Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Expressway. A notification was published in the Maharashtra Government Gazette on June 9, declaring the intention to acquire land for the project. This marks progress in the ongoing efforts to develop the high-speed corridor. The Public Works Department announced the land acquisition under the Maharashtra Highways Act, 1955. The government stated the land is essential for the expressway and has begun the formal process. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will oversee the project as the designated highway authority.
Interested parties have been invited to raise objections to the proposed land use. Any written objections must be submitted within 21 days of the notification’s publication to the Sub-Divisional Officer. The expressway aims to improve connectivity between Vidarbha, Marathwada, and western Maharashtra, while also providing a direct route to Goa. The land acquisition process is now underway. Once completed, the project is expected to boost regional transport links, cut travel times, and support economic growth in the areas it passes through. The government’s latest move keeps the expressway plan on track.
