Magadan's School No. 20 celebrates graduates with pride and purpose
Magadan has begun its annual final school bell ceremonies, marking the end of another academic year. Among the celebrations, School No. 20 in Sokol village stood out with a graduation event attended by Mayor Larisa Polikanova. The school, known for its long history of excellence, also highlighted its ongoing volunteer efforts and new initiatives. This year, 13 students graduated from School No. 20, joining over 500 high school leavers across Magadan. The school has a proud tradition, having produced more than 100 gold and silver medalists in its 60-plus years of operation.
The ceremony at School No. 20 included special recognition for Svetlana Smotrova, the organizing teacher, who received the 'For Assistance to the Front' medal. Her work reflects the school’s active volunteer spirit, with groups like 'Kind Magicians' and 'The Non-Purple Generation' supporting soldiers and local hospitals. In 2023, the school launched a primary branch of the 'Movement of the Firsts' youth organization. It also opened a workshop for weaving camouflage nets, which has already produced 16 nets for defenders. Festive events continue across Magadan, with schools and concert venues hosting celebrations for graduates.
The graduation ceremonies in Magadan mark both an end and a new beginning for students. School No. 20’s contributions—from academic achievements to volunteer work—highlight its role in the community. The events also showcase the city’s commitment to honouring its young people as they move forward.
