Madrid Metro Line 10 shuts key section for €66M Bernabéu station overhaul

Madrid Metro Line 10 has shut down a key section for major renovation work. The closure between Cuzco and Nuevos Ministerios stations began on Saturday and will last until the end of the year. The project focuses on a complete overhaul of Santiago Bernabéu station, backed by a €66 million investment. The renovation will transform Santiago Bernabéu station, expanding its floor area from 4,843 square metres to over 12,400 square metres. New features include 12 panoramic elevators, 24 escalators, and a spacious central concourse. Before the upgrade, the station saw over 34,000 passengers on typical Real Madrid match days.

To ease disruption, Madrid's transport authorities have introduced alternatives. A free special bus service, the SE10, now connects Plaza de Castilla with Nuevos Ministerios, running up to 15 buses during peak hours. EMT has also increased services on bus lines 27 and 147, while Metro lines L1 and L9 offer extended routes. The affected stations—Nuevos Ministerios, Santiago Bernabéu, and Cuzco—will remain closed until the work finishes. The reopened section of Line 10 is expected to resume service in early 2027. Additionally, the station will drop 'Santiago' from its name, becoming simply 'Bernabéu' when it reopens.

The closure will last until December, with full service resuming in early 2027. The upgraded station will feature expanded capacity and modern facilities. Until then, commuters can rely on boosted bus and Metro alternatives to navigate the affected area.
