Madhya Pradesh Secures 4,000 MW Power Boost with Three New Plants by 2030

The Madhya Pradesh government has signed agreements with three private power firms to generate 4,000 MW of electricity. The new plants, located in Anuppur district, will operate under a design, build, finance, own, and operate (DBFOO) model. Construction is set to begin soon, with electricity supply expected from 2030 onwards.

The total investment for these projects reaches Rs 60,000 crore. Torrent Power and Adani Power will each contribute Rs 24,000 crore, while Hindustan Powerprojects will invest Rs 12,000 crore. Power supply contracts have already been finalised with special purpose vehicles (SPVs) created by the developers.

The three companies involved—Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL), GMR Group, and Lanco Infratech—formed dedicated SPVs for the projects. Anuppur Power Venture Pvt Ltd (APVPL) was established by JPVL, Hasdeo Power Company Pvt Ltd (HPCPL) by GMR, and Anuppur Power Company Pvt Ltd (APCPL) by Lanco. These SPVs were set up around 2007–2008 to manage 3x600 MW supercritical thermal power plants. Once operational, the plants will create around 8,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly. The increased power capacity is expected to boost electricity availability across Madhya Pradesh.

The projects mark a major step in expanding Madhya Pradesh's energy infrastructure. With a combined output of 4,000 MW, the plants will begin supplying power by 2030. The investment and employment opportunities are set to bring long-term benefits to the region.
