London St Pancras gets £100m upgrade to slash Eurostar wait times
London St Pancras is set for a £100 million upgrade to improve passenger flow and reduce waiting times. The changes will add two new international platforms and streamline security checks. Eurostar aims to cut queueing by up to 30 minutes as part of the overhaul.
The station's remodelling focuses on easing congestion and handling more travellers. New EU border security rules and increased Eurostar services have pushed demand for better facilities. A key improvement will let passengers wait on trains at platforms after clearing security, rather than in a departure lounge.
Check-in times will also drop from 60 minutes to just 30 before boarding. The five international platforms will be shared, with passengers directing themselves to the correct train post-security. Two extra platforms (12 and 13) are planned to accommodate new rail operators competing with Eurostar.
The upgrades apply only to St Pancras, not to Paris Gare du Nord or other mainland stations. The goal is to boost capacity and make journeys smoother for travellers using the Channel Tunnel.
The £100 million project will expand queuing areas and modernise the station's layout. Passengers can expect shorter wait times and more efficient boarding. The changes are designed to support growth in cross-Channel rail travel.
