Landstar's Q4 2025 earnings tumble as insurance costs surge past $56 million
Landstar System, Inc. has released its financial results for the 2025 fourth quarter, showing a drop in earnings and revenue. The company reported total revenue of $1.174 billion, down from $1.209 billion in the same period the previous year. President and CEO Frank Lonegro presented the figures on January 28, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) fell sharply to $0.70 in the 2025 fourth quarter, compared to $1.31 in the 2024 period. A major factor behind this decline was a surge in insurance and claims costs, which rose to $56 million—up from around $30 million a year earlier.
Truck transportation revenue remained nearly unchanged year over year. However, revenue from ocean services dropped, contributing to the overall decline in total revenue. Despite this, Landstar saw sequential improvement in truck revenue per load, surpassing pre-pandemic seasonal trends.
The quarter also included significant one-off expenses. Three vehicular accidents added $16.7 million in insurance and claims costs, equivalent to $0.37 per share. Additionally, the company recorded $5.3 million ($0.12 per share) due to higher claim reserves and $2.1 million ($0.05 per share) in non-cash impairment charges tied to the sale of Landstar Metro, S.A.P.I. de C.V.
One bright spot was the continued strength in services hauled by unsided/platform equipment, which performed well throughout the quarter.
The rise in insurance and claims expenses weighed heavily on Landstar's fourth-quarter results. While truck revenue per load showed improvement, the overall financial performance reflected challenges in ocean services and elevated costs. The company now moves forward with adjustments in its operations and claims management.
