Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior recently held a meeting to boost cooperation with transport firms and improve public services. The session focused on modernising the country’s public transport system and easing traffic congestion across major routes.

Senior officials, including Brigadier Abdullah Al-Ateeqi, Head of the Traffic and Operations Sector, attended alongside representatives from bus companies. Their goal was to align transport strategies with Kuwait’s broader urban development plans.

During the meeting, participants examined ways to enhance bus operations and streamline route organisation. They also tackled ongoing challenges faced by transport providers, such as delays and inefficiencies. Strategies to make public transport more appealing, reliable, and secure were a key focus, with strict adherence to traffic laws emphasised.

Major General Al-Wahib highlighted the need for tight coordination between the Ministry and transport firms. He stressed that joint efforts would be essential to roll out development plans and implement expert recommendations. The ministry pledged to deploy all available resources and adopt global best practices to improve traffic flow and road safety. The discussions also centred on shifting Kuwait’s transport culture toward greater use of buses and mass transit. By encouraging residents to choose public transport over private vehicles, authorities aim to cut congestion and create a more integrated, modern network.

The meeting marked a step toward unifying efforts between government bodies and transport operators. Concrete plans were set to upgrade services, enforce regulations, and reduce traffic bottlenecks.

If successful, the initiative could lead to a more efficient public transport system that supports Kuwait’s long-term growth and urban planning objectives.
