Kuwait’s Tracking Division has uncovered 10 major smuggling cases in 2025. The unit, part of the General Administration of Customs, specialises in detecting drugs, explosives, and illegal goods at the country’s borders. Using trained dogs and expert inspectors, it plays a key role in national security efforts. The division was set up in 2006 under the Customs Investigation and Research Office. Its main task is to inspect cargo, vehicles, and passengers entering Kuwait. Specially trained dogs and inspectors work together to find hidden narcotics, explosives, and smuggled money.

The unit operates across land, sea, and air ports, with seven tracking centres nationwide. The largest facility, Al-Sulaibiya, serves as the main hub for operations. Around 140 Kuwaiti customs inspectors manage daily activities and provide logistical support. The division currently uses 157 police dogs, including German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Labradors, and Cocker Spaniels. These dogs help uncover concealed items, even as smugglers adopt more advanced camouflage methods. The team also collaborates with local and international security agencies to tackle cross-border smuggling networks.

The Tracking Division’s efforts have led to multiple high-profile seizures this year. With trained dogs, skilled inspectors, and strategic partnerships, it continues to strengthen Kuwait’s defences against illegal trafficking. The unit remains a critical part of the country’s customs enforcement system.
