Major Transport Hub Reconstruction Begins in Krasnoyarsk
Work has started in Krasnoyarsk on the reconstruction of a key transportation interchange—the Kotelnikov Avenue junction near the village of Solontsy. The upgraded facility will significantly boost both traffic capacity and safety at the intersection where routes from the city converge toward the federal R-255 "Siberia" highway and the Northern Highway.
The project is being carried out under the national initiative Infrastructure for Life and is part of Krasnoyarsk's preparations for its 400th anniversary, according to the regional infrastructure development agency KRUDOR. The contract was awarded to NBS-Sibir LLC, while the reconstruction design was prepared by Dorproekt LLC.
The total cost of the project is 1.8 billion rubles. Preliminary work began last year, including utility relocations, power grid adjustments, and the demolition of a gas station, but the bulk of construction will take place in 2026.
As previously reported by DELA, the overpass on Kotelnikov Avenue will be widened from 21 to 29 meters, with the addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes.
Once modernized, the interchange's capacity will increase from 37,000 to 60,000 vehicles per day by 2033.
The upgrades will also include improved drainage, street lighting, sidewalks, and safety barriers—including along the central divider. Residents of Noveland and Solontsy will finally get an underground pedestrian crossing and a dedicated walkway.
The reconstructed interchange is scheduled for completion in 2027.
A reminder: In 2025, Krasnoyarsk residents and visitors gained access to the upgraded Blizhny Obkhod—the expanded and illuminated bypass leading to the Drokino interchange.
