Krasnodar battles record-breaking May floods after historic downpours
Krasnodar has experienced its wettest May in at least 50 years, with heavy rain causing disruption across the city. Overnight downpours brought 31 mm of rainfall—nearly half the usual monthly total—prompting emergency response efforts in multiple areas. Since the beginning of May, the city has recorded 161 mm of rain, more than double the average for the entire month. The extreme weather has led to 38 calls from residents to the Unified Dispatch Service in just 24 hours.
Pump trucks are now operating at several locations, including Aksayskaya Street, Musorgsky Street, and 1st Krup-skaya Lane. Crews are also working in Yagodin Street, Koltsovoy Proezd, and the Novoznamensky microdistrict. Additional efforts are focused on Ulanskaya Street, Lenin Farmstead, and Plastunskaya Street. Municipal rescue teams are clearing fallen trees from roads and courtyards. Their work aims to restore safe access for residents affected by the storm.
The record-breaking rainfall has overwhelmed parts of Krasnodar, forcing ongoing clean-up operations. With precipitation at 248% of the expected May total, authorities continue to address flooding and debris across the city.
