KLIA aerotrain to resume 24-hour service by late May 2025

The KLIA aerotrain service is set to return to full 24-hour operations by the end of May 2025. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the update during a press conference at KLIA Terminal 2. The decision follows months of maintenance and inspections after a series of technical and operational issues. The aerotrain system was temporarily halted at night for maintenance after recording 19 incidents between July 2 and September 30, 2025. These disruptions included both technical faults and human-related problems. Despite the setbacks, the system has maintained an operational service availability (OSA) of 98.41 per cent since resuming operations on July 1, 2025.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has taken steps to improve reliability by implementing a comprehensive action plan (CAP). All required tests have been completed, and a detailed report was submitted to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for review. The current overnight halt remains in place until final approval is granted.

Since restarting, the aerotrain has completed over 53,000 return trips and transported around seven million passengers. The service continues to operate during the day, with only a few hours of downtime each night for inspections. The resumption of 24-hour operations depends on APAD’s approval of MAHB’s submitted report. If granted, the aerotrain will return to non-stop service by late May. The system’s performance and passenger numbers have remained strong despite past interruptions.
