Kazmortransflot smashes container record on the Middle Corridor's Aktau-Alyat route
Kazmortransflot has set a new record for container transport on the Aktau-Alyat route. In May 2026, the company moved 7,451 TEUs—more than double the volume from the same month last year. The achievement highlights growing activity along the Middle Corridor, a vital trade link between China, Central Asia, and Europe. The surge in cargo followed a strategic increase in vessel deployment. Kazmortransflot, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas, operates as the official maritime carrier on the Middle Corridor. To meet demand, the company used container ships Barys, Berkut, and Sunkar, alongside dry cargo vessels Turkistan and Beket Ata. These additions allowed for more frequent sailings between Aktau Port and the Port of Alyat.
Efficiency played a key role in the record result. Since 2019, Kazmortransflot has transported over 210,000 TEUs on this route using its own fleet. This total equates to roughly 2.7 million tons of cargo. The company credited the milestone to better cargo distribution and optimised vessel scheduling. The May 2026 figures mark a significant rise from the 3,359 TEUs carried in May 2025. The growth reflects the Middle Corridor’s expanding role in global trade. Kazmortransflot’s increased capacity and operational improvements have strengthened its position as a key player in the region.
