Kazakhstan's New Maritime Fleet Strengthens Asia-Europe Trade Route

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is expanding its role in global trade by launching its own maritime fleet. The move aims to boost the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), a key link between Asia and Europe. Six new cargo vessels will form the backbone of this initiative. KTZ has signed contracts to build six specialised vessels. Four will be constructed by Jiangsu Haizhongzhou Shipping Industry Co., Ltd., while the remaining two take shape at the Baku Shipyard. Each ship is designed to handle up to 9,900 tons of deadweight and carry 537 TEU containers, ensuring flexibility across inland and open-sea routes.

The vessels will feature advanced navigation and control systems, meeting strict international safety and environmental rules. Bureau Veritas will oversee classification and certification, guaranteeing compliance with global maritime standards. Their specifications are tailored to fit smoothly into the TITR’s multimodal logistics network.

This project targets a more stable maritime component within the TITR. By reducing bottlenecks and improving cargo-handling efficiency, the fleet will help strengthen the corridor’s role as an alternative trade route between Asia and Europe. The new fleet marks a significant step in enhancing logistics capacity along the Caspian and Black Sea corridors. Once operational, the vessels will support faster, more reliable cargo movement across the TITR. The initiative reflects broader efforts to diversify trade routes between continents.
