Kazakhstan prosecutors recover $16,000 in overdue severance for rural teachers

The prosecutor’s office in Atyrau’s Isatai District has secured overdue payments for nearly 100 retired rural teachers and kindergarten staff. The retirees were owed severance pay totalling more than 7.2 million tenge (around $16,000) after their contracts ended due to retirement. Legal action ensured they received their full entitlements.

The case began when the prosecutor’s office identified wage violations affecting retired education workers. Alongside the 100 retirees, over 1,600 employees in the district also faced delayed salary payments. Prosecutors intervened to enforce compliance with labour laws.

Seven officials were found administratively liable under Part 1 of Article 87 of Kazakhstan’s Code of Administrative Offenses. Their failure to pay severance on time led to the legal penalties. Following the intervention, all affected retirees received their full severance payments. The broader prosecutorial action also ensured that the remaining 1,600 employees were paid their outstanding wages. The measures taken by the authorities resolved the payment delays across the district.

The retirees now have their legally mandated severance payments in full. The enforcement action also cleared salary arrears for thousands of other workers in the region. Officials responsible for the violations face administrative consequences under Kazakh law.
