JNPA soars to 22nd globally as India's top-performing port in 2025
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has been named India’s best-performing port. It now ranks 22nd globally in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025. The port has also shown one of the biggest improvements worldwide since 2020. JNPA climbed 32 points in the CPPI rankings, rising from 66th place in 2020 to 22nd in 2025. Its Statistical Index score reached 58.9, while its Administrative Index hit 138.0. The index measures performance based on vessel time in port, adjusted for ship size and call characteristics.
The port achieved a berth occupancy share of 75% of port hours. Chairperson Gaurav Dayal attributed this success to terminal operators, shipping lines, logistics partners, Customs, employees and other stakeholders. JNPA currently manages five container terminals: NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT.
Beyond its current operations, JNPA is expanding capacity and adopting new technology to boost global competitiveness. It is also developing the Vadhvan Port project in Maharashtra, designed as India’s 13th major port and a fully green facility. JNPA’s ranking as 14th among the top 20 most improved ports reflects its steady progress. The port’s focus on sustainable growth and infrastructure development continues to strengthen its position. Its performance gains and ongoing projects mark a significant step for India’s maritime sector.
