Jena's Leisure Pool to be Renovated for €24 Million - Jena's Galaxsea Pool Closes for €24.4M Eco-Friendly Overhaul Until 2027
Jena's popular Galaxsea leisure pool will close for a major modernisation project starting in June 2023. The renovation aims to cut energy use and secure long-term cost savings while introducing new attractions for visitors. Work is set to last until late 2027, with a total investment of €24.4 million.
The large-scale upgrade will focus on key infrastructure, including energy and building systems, ventilation, and water facilities. These changes are designed to make the pool more efficient and sustainable. Alongside technical improvements, the project will add fresh features such as an indoor adventure world for children, a water playground, and a new diving centre.
Accessibility will also be enhanced, ensuring the pool is easier to use for all guests. However, the entire facility will remain closed throughout the renovation period. In 2022, Galaxsea attracted around 253,000 visitors, highlighting its importance as a local leisure destination.
Construction begins in early June 2023 and is scheduled to finish by the end of 2027. The extended timeline reflects the scale of the work, which includes both structural upgrades and the installation of new visitor amenities.
Once complete, the modernised Galaxsea will reopen with improved facilities and lower operating costs. The €24.4 million investment covers both energy-efficient upgrades and expanded attractions. Visitors can expect a refreshed experience when the pool welcomes guests again in late 2027.
