Jambyl region transforms farming with massive water infrastructure upgrades
The Jambyl region is upgrading its water infrastructure with major projects under way. Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov is overseeing the work to improve irrigation across the area. Several canals, pumping stations and water intake sites are being restored or rebuilt. Reconstruction of the Left-Bank and Right-Bank main canals in Shu district covers over 88 kilometres. This work is set to finish by the end of 2027. Once complete, the canals will enhance water delivery to 18,100 hectares of farmland.
In Korday district, the 18-kilometre Blagoveshchensky canal is being upgraded. This project should be finished by the end of the year.
Restoration of 46 water intake wells in Merken district is nearly done. Testing of six remaining intake sites is expected to wrap up by the end of the month. Additionally, 13 wells in Oital rural district and 27 in Andas-Batyr district have already been restored. These wells now supply water to around 2,700 hectares of irrigated land. The upgrades will expand reliable water access for farming in the region. Improved canals and restored wells are poised to support thousands of hectares of agricultural land. Completion of these projects marks a significant step in strengthening local water resources.
