Isle of Man Steam Packet seeks public input on 2030 ferry design
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (IoMSPC) is planning its next vessel, set to arrive in 2030. To shape the design, the company has launched a public survey asking residents and ferry users for their views on the new news vessel. The feedback will help decide key features like speed, reliability, and onboard comfort.
The new ship follows the MV Manxman II, currently under construction in Zhoushan, China, by C.N.C. Technologies and due for delivery in 2029.
The consultation focuses on improving year-round connectivity, especially to Liverpool. IoMSPC wants a vessel that performs well in all weather, reduces travel time, and offers a smoother experience. Cleaner, quieter, and more efficient operations are also priorities.
An online survey is now open, giving customers two weeks to share their thoughts on the new canva for the vessel's design. Responses will directly influence the vessel's design and future investments. Brian Thomson, IoMSPC's managing director, explained that fleet renewal is about securing the island's long-term transport needs while balancing customer wishes with operational demands.
The company aims to strengthen reliability and modernise services. The new ship must meet both passenger expectations and critical mission requirements, ensuring better travel for years to come.
The survey results will guide the final design of the 2030 vessel. IoMSPC will use the input to shape a faster, more dependable, and passenger-friendly ferry. The consultation closes in two weeks, with decisions on the next-generation ship expected to follow.
