Intergas Central Asia JSC: Reliability in Every Cubic Meter
Intergas Central Asia ensures flawless heating season amid rising gas demand
How Intergas Central Asia—a subsidiary of QazaqGaz National Company JSC—successfully navigated the 2025–2026 heating season, managed peak demand, conducted repairs, and prepared for the next winter: an interview with Deputy General Director Azamat Davletov.
— Azamat Nurzhanovich, the heating season is traditionally a serious test for gas transport systems. What are the key takeaways from the company's leadership following the conclusion of this autumn-winter period?
— Indeed, as temperatures drop, the strain on the system increases significantly. Yet this season, all critical performance targets were fully met. Intergas Central Asia ensured uninterrupted gas supply even during extreme cold and peak demand. This was made possible by comprehensive preparations that began long before winter.
— What specific measures were taken as part of these preparations?
— We carried out extensive repair and diagnostic work. In particular, over 600 defective pipe sections were replaced along the main gas pipelines. This not only enhanced system reliability but also increased gas transport capacity by two percent—reaching 18.4 billion cubic meters compared to last year.
I would like to highlight the major work on the Central Asia–Center main gas pipeline, which runs through three western regions of the republic. Here, we identified and eliminated 7,290 defective sections. Additionally, we reconstructed the connection node at the Inder compressor station (part of the Atyrau Gas Pipeline Directorate), expanding transport capabilities along new routes. The completed repairs enabled us to handle and transport gas without disruption during peak loads—both along routes to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and toward China—while also laying the groundwork for increased transit via the second line of the Beineu–Bozoi–Shymkent gas pipeline.
— Did domestic gas consumption in the republic change over the reporting period?
— During the 2025–2026 heating season, domestic consumption rose by seven percent. To meet peak demand, the company actively utilized underground gas storage facilities, withdrawing approximately 2.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The Bozoi storage facility bore the brunt of the load, supplying 1.9 billion cubic meters. Poltoratskoye contributed 350 million cubic meters, while Akyrtobe provided 120.8 million. This allowed us to effectively smooth out seasonal consumption fluctuations.
— What other factors ensured the system's stable operation?
The stability of the gas transport system was also ensured by timely technical maintenance, the availability of reserve capacities, and effective management of transportation modes in coordination with the national gas company QazaqGaz. This included leveraging the transit potential of the Beyneu–Bozoi–Shymkent and Kazakhstan–China gas pipeline networks, as well as the synchronized efforts of QazaqGaz National Company JSC and its subsidiaries alongside natural gas suppliers, including the Amangeldy field group.
In January 2026, Alibek Zhamauov, Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz NC JSC, held a meeting with the heads of subsidiary companies to review the performance during the autumn-winter period. Following the meeting, directives were issued to enhance the reliability and efficiency of gas supply during the heating season and to ensure advance preparations for the upcoming 2026–2027 heating season.
— Does this mean preparations for the next heating season have already begun?
— Yes, immediately after the current season concluded, we started preparing for 2026–2027. The plans include repair work on the main gas pipelines—Bukhara–Urals, Kartaly–Rudny, Central Asia–Center—as well as on the branch line to Karatau and other facilities and routes. The primary focus is on improving the reliability and safety of the entire system.
— What would you highlight as the key outcome of the past season?
The results of the 2025–2026 heating season clearly demonstrate the high reliability and resilience of the republic's gas transport system. Intergas Central Asia not only successfully managed increased demand but also proved the effectiveness of its systematic infrastructure modernization efforts.
Once again, we have confirmed that Kazakhstan's gas transport system can withstand high loads. Most importantly, we fulfilled our core mission: ensuring stable and safe gas supply to households and industrial enterprises, regardless of weather challenges.
Behind these achievements stands a professional and cohesive team capable of swiftly resolving complex operational tasks and maintaining uninterrupted gas transportation. The consistent implementation of investment programs, meticulous attention to equipment maintenance, and comprehensive support from our parent company, QazaqGaz NC JSC, allow us to confidently face the future and uphold our status as Kazakhstan's national gas transport operator.
