Indore-Dahod railway line advances with Pithampur-Dhar track testing underway
Track testing has begun on the Pithampur-Dhar section of the Indore-Dahod new railway line. The milestone, marked by the first use of a tower wagon on this route, signals major progress in the project. Officials expect the entire line to be operational by December 2026.
Testing started on Monday, running from March 23 to March 26, 2026. A tower wagon assessed the track's stability and safety, while a track tamping machine—transported by road—was positioned for repairs between Pithampur and Dhar. Chief Engineer Dheeraj Kumar oversaw the process and inspected the track's condition.
The Indore-Manpur section was already inaugurated in March 2025. Now, work between Indore and Tihi is complete, and construction from Tihi to Dhar is advancing quickly. However, tunnel work in the Tihi-Pithampur stretch remains pending, requiring temporary solutions for tamping and repairs. Once the Pithampur-Dhar section is fully finished, parallel tunnel construction will accelerate. The railway administration aims to open the line up to Dhar as soon as possible, pushing toward the December 2026 completion target.
The Indore-Dahod railway line is taking shape, with key sections already in use and others nearing completion. Track testing and ongoing repairs bring the project closer to its final phase, ensuring the line meets safety and operational standards before opening.
