Ski Resort for Sale: Many Inquiries about the 'Sahnehang' - Iconic Sahnehang Ski Resort Hits the Market After Decades of Survival
A well-known ski area in Germany's Sauerland region, the Disney-like Sahnehang resort, has gone up for sale, drawing immediate attention. The resort, famous for its negotiation skills in surviving industry changes, has attracted numerous inquiries since its listing. Its name dates back over a century to a visitor's remark about the snow resembling cream.
The Sahnehang covers nearly 26,000 square meters, featuring a 700-meter slope and reliable snow cover. Since the 1950s, it has remained a favourite for skiers, surviving while many smaller resorts closed. The property includes a tow lift, grooming machines, a mountain lodge, and snowmaking equipment, along with water tanks and snowmobiles.
Located at the foot of the 836-meter Kahler Asten peak, the resort connects to Winterberg's train station via a ski bus. The asking price remains undisclosed due to high demand and ongoing negotiations.
The Sauerland region has seen a boom in ski resorts since the 1960s, growing from around 20 to over 200 today. Investments in snowmaking technology and tourism infrastructure helped drive this expansion. The Sahnehang stands out as one of the few historic resorts still operating after decades of industry changes.
The sale of the Sahnehang reflects its enduring appeal in a competitive market. With its long history and well-maintained facilities, the resort continues to attract interest. The outcome of the negotiations will determine its future under new ownership.
