Howard Hotels sees Agra revenue soar but profits tumble by 20%

Howard Hotels has reported mixed financial results for its latest quarter. While revenue at its flagship Agra property surged, overall net profit dropped by a fifth. Investors now await the full audited figures to gauge the company's long-term performance.

The hotel group, known for its strong presence in cultural tourism near the Taj Mahal, saw its stock rise by nearly eight percent. Yet shares remain far below their 52-week peak of ₹33.90. Revenue at Howard Hotels' main property in Agra jumped by 97 percent to ₹5.35 crore in the third quarter. This sharp increase highlights the company's strength in cultural tourism, particularly around the Taj Mahal.

Despite the revenue boost, net profit fell by roughly 20 percent year-over-year to ₹1.17 crore. High personnel costs, which make up over 30 percent of revenue, likely contributed to the decline. Over the past five years, however, the company has maintained an average profit growth of 53.5 percent.

The stock price reacted positively, climbing nearly eight percent in recent trading. Still, it stays well below its 52-week high. With a current price-to-earnings ratio of 51.5, analysts and investors are now waiting for the audited annual results to better assess profitability trends.

The company's focus on cultural tourism near major landmarks remains a key advantage. Yet the drop in net profit and high staffing expenses have raised questions about efficiency and future earnings potential. Howard Hotels continues to benefit from its prime location near the Taj Mahal, as shown by the strong revenue growth in Agra. However, the decline in net profit and high personnel costs suggest challenges ahead.

Market participants will closely watch the upcoming audited figures to determine whether the company can sustain its long-term growth. The stock's recent gain, while positive, has not yet recovered to its previous peak.
