Future Project Bike Rapid Way: Citizen Workshop Planned

High-Speed Cycle Route Plans Connect Three German Cities by 2026

Plans for a high-speed cycle route linking Braunschweig, Salzgitter, and Wolfenbüttel are progressing. The project aims to cut cycling and e-bike travel times to match those of car journeys. A public workshop will now help shape the next steps. The Greater Braunschweig Regional Association, together with the three cities, has been developing the route since autumn. A planning office reviewed possible paths between Europaplatz and the A 39 motorway, as well as key districts. Over 300 suggestions from residents were collected during the first public consultation in spring 2025.

Initial route options have now been shortlisted. These are designed to reduce delays from traffic lights, narrow paths, poor surfaces, and steep gradients. A workshop on Tuesday, June 23, at 6:00 PM at Raabeschule Gymnasium (Stöckheim branch) will let residents help choose a preferred route. The selected option will then go to political committees for further review. The chosen route will support faster, more reliable cycling between the cities. It forms part of broader efforts to improve transport and reduce emissions. Further details are available on the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association’s website.
