Hesse's Kompassbahnhof Program Expands to Boost Train Station Safety
Hesse is expanding its efforts to improve safety at train stations. The Kompassbahnhof program targets these key transport hubs, described as vital meeting points and gateways to cities and towns. Roman Poseck highlighted their importance in public life. Since December 2023, six pilot municipalities have taken part in the scheme: Fulda, Hofgeismar, Hofheim am Taunus, Maintal, Neustadt, and Rüsselsheim. In Fulda, upgrades have already been made to enhance security. These include a new CCTV system, a weapons ban zone, and improved lighting. Joint patrols by federal, state, and local police have also been introduced there.
The program will now extend to more stations across the region. Cooperation agreements for Hungen, Herborn, Treysa, Neu-Isenburg, Heppenheim, and Bad Homburg vor der Höhe are scheduled for the second half of 2026. The Kompassbahnhof initiative continues to roll out across Hesse. Upgrades like better lighting, surveillance, and police presence aim to make stations safer. Further expansions are planned to cover additional locations in the coming years.
