Hanau Port finally regains transport links with on-demand shuttle expansion
Hanau Port will soon be better connected to the local transport network. From 1 March 2023, the on-demand shuttle news will extend its service to the port area. This move follows years without a direct bus link and aims to support the port's growing role as a business hub.
The news shuttle already serves Großauheim, Klein-Auheim, and Wolfgang, covering around 300 stops. Now, it will include Hanau Port, filling a gap left when bus services to the area ended six years ago. Since then, passengers have relied on nearby routes to reach the port.
The expanded service will run daily, using electric minibuses that pool passengers heading in the same direction. This approach makes travel more efficient and reduces emissions. The new coverage area stretches from Rodgaustraße to the port gate on Westerburgstraße, and from Auheimer Straße to Saarstraße.
To make boarding easier, 14 new virtual stops have been added. These are listed in the OnDemand@RMV app and online booking platform. Passengers can book rides through the app, the web version, or by phone after a one-time registration.
Fares within the service area cost €3.30 per trip. Discounted rates of €1.50 apply for those with a valid RMV or Deutschland-Ticket, as well as for accompanying passengers and children aged 6 to 14. The expansion is part of the new local transport plan and was implemented without extra funding.
The news extension marks the first major step in improving transport links to Hanau Port. With electric minibuses and flexible booking, the service aims to meet demand from the port's growing business activity. Passengers can now access the area more easily, six years after the last direct bus was withdrawn.
