Hamburg-Berlin rail line reopens after months of upgrades and delays

Deutsche Bahn has reopened the major rail line between Hamburg and Berlin after months of upgrades. The first passenger trains are now running on the route. Bookings have also opened for a new family ticket priced at €99.99 for summer travel. The Hamburg-Berlin route closed for major renovation work in August 2025. The project faced delays, pushing back the original completion date of late April. Freight trains returned to the line on Saturday evening, followed by passenger services today.

Long-distance trains will operate at reduced speeds in some sections for the first two weeks. Passengers may experience minor disruptions as the relaunch settles in. Travellers are urged to confirm departure times before setting off.

Deutsche Bahn has also introduced a summer family ticket. Costing €99.99, it covers journeys from June 26 to September 14. Bookings for the ticket remain open until September 12. The Hamburg-Berlin line is now fully operational after extensive upgrades. Slower speeds and minor issues may occur initially as services adjust. The new family ticket offers a discounted option for holiday travel this summer.
