Grevenbroich powers up with new solar panels at local school

Grevenbroich has expanded its renewable energy efforts with a new photovoltaic system at Käthe-Kollwitz Comprehensive School. The installation, unveiled on March 10, 2026, covers part of the school's electricity needs while cutting CO₂ emissions. More solar projects are already in the pipeline for other municipal buildings this year.

The new system sits on the roof of Building D at Käthe-Kollwitz Comprehensive School. It consists of 132 modules, each producing 450 watts, for a total capacity of around 60 kWp. The project cost roughly €70,000, with 90% of eligible expenses covered by North Rhine-Westphalia's progres.nrw funding scheme.

Further solar installations are planned for the same school. A 30 kWp system will go on the triple gymnasium, and another 30 kWp system is set for the new workshop building. These additions will boost the school's reliance on renewable energy. Beyond Käthe-Kollwitz, three more municipal sites have applied for solar funding under the *Gigawatt Pact* program. Kapellen Daycare Center and both campuses of Wilhelm von Humboldt Comprehensive School (Parkstraße and Hans-Sachs-Straße) are next in line. No other municipal buildings in Grevenbroich are currently in planning for photovoltaic systems in 2026.

The new solar panels at Käthe-Kollwitz Comprehensive School mark another step in Grevenbroich's climate protection strategy. With more projects scheduled for daycare centres and schools, the city continues to reduce emissions through renewable energy. The funding support from progres.nrw and the Gigawatt Pact helps keep costs manageable for these expansions.
