GoSwap Secures Funding to Expand Electric Scooter Battery Swaps in Morocco
Moroccan startup GoSwap has secured its first round of funding from the Azur Innovation Fund. The company specialises in automated battery swapping for electric scooters, aiming to make electric mobility faster and more accessible. The investment will help expand its network across Morocco and beyond. GoSwap's technology allows riders to swap a drained battery for a fully charged one in under 10 seconds. The system is already in use, with 20 swap cabinets operating in Casablanca at CashPlus stores, Petrom, and Shell stations.
The funding will accelerate the rollout of these stations to other cities, starting with Marrakech. It will also support the integration of new electric motorcycle models compatible with GoSwap's solution. Hamza Slimani, the startup's founder, wants to cut costs and extend vehicle range, making electric transport available to more people. Adnane Filali, managing partner at Azur Innovation Management, has highlighted the system's potential for African cities. The investment aligns with broader efforts to boost electric mobility in North Africa.
GoSwap's expansion plans include new swap stations in Marrakech and further development of its battery-swapping network. The funding from Azur Innovation Fund will help scale operations and introduce more compatible electric vehicles. The goal is to make electric mobility a practical option for riders across Morocco.
