Google acquires AppSheet to boost no-code app development tools
Google has acquired AppSheet, a Seattle-based platform that helps users build mobile apps without coding. The deal marks a significant move into the no-code development sector. Financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed. AppSheet was founded in 2014 by Praveen Seshadri and Brian Sabino. The company received early seed funding from New Enterprise Associates in 2015. Over time, it gained recognition for its low-code tools, earning awards from TiE in 2018 and Forrester Research in 2019.
The platform has attracted over 18,000 app creators who have deployed around 200,000 applications. Major brands like Whirlpool, Pepsi, and Toyota have used AppSheet for their mobile development needs. Its technology incorporates AI and natural language processing to speed up app creation.
Following the acquisition, the AppSheet team will join Google Cloud. They will continue supporting existing clients, including iOS and web-based mobility solutions. Google aims to expand these services within its own cloud infrastructure. The acquisition brings AppSheet's no-code capabilities into Google's ecosystem. Existing customers will still receive support, while new tools may emerge under Google Cloud. The deal reflects growing demand for simpler app development methods.
