Giant Container Ship Arrives in Hamburg - Giant OOCL Portugal Docks in Hamburg After Brief River Traffic Halt

One of the world’s largest container ships, the OOCL Portugal, has arrived in Hamburg. The vessel docked at HHLA’s Tollerort Container Terminal after briefly stopping river traffic for safety. Built just this year, the massive ship measures 400 metres long and 60 metres wide.

The OOCL Portugal entered the Port of Hamburg on a scheduled voyage. To allow safe passage, through traffic on the waterway paused for roughly an hour. Once docked, the ship began unloading at the Tollerort terminal.

The vessel has a cargo capacity of nearly 225,000 tons and a draft of up to 16.5 metres. After completing operations in Hamburg, it will proceed to Rotterdam before continuing to Antwerp. Details about the ship’s owner remain unclear, as available sources do not identify the company responsible for its operation.

The arrival of the OOCL Portugal highlights Hamburg’s role in handling some of the largest vessels in global shipping. The temporary halt in waterway traffic ensured the ship’s safe docking. Its next stops include Rotterdam and Antwerp as part of its ongoing route.
