Decade-long Decline in Housing Construction in NRW Halted - Germany's housing boom sees 10.7% surge in building permits for homes

New figures show a rise in building permits for homes across Germany last year. Authorities approved nearly 45,000 new residences, marking a 10.7 percent increase from the previous year. The growth was driven largely by a sharp jump in single-family home approvals. The latest news reveals a significant shift in housing permits. Approvals for single-family homes climbed by 21.4 percent compared to the year before. Multi-family dwellings also saw a modest rise of 4.8 percent. Despite the overall increase, the numbers remain lower than in 2022, with a 24 percent drop in total permits since then. North Rhine-Westphalia, in particular, recorded a slight uptick in building permits after years of decline. The current figures are provisional, with final annual statistics due in late April. The rise in permits suggests a growing demand for new housing, especially for single-family properties. However, the total remains below levels seen two years ago. Officials will release the confirmed annual data by the end of April.
