Germany and Israel Practice Defense Against Cyber Attacks - Germany and Israel Launch First Joint Cybersecurity Exercise Blue Horizon
Germany and Israel have carried out their first joint cyber defence exercise, codenamed Blue Horizon. The drill aimed to improve cooperation between the two nations in tackling severe cyber threats. Officials described it as a key step in strengthening their shared defence capabilities.
The exercise brought together experts from Israel's National Cyber Directorate and German cyber specialists. Their focus was on building stronger working relationships, aligning emergency procedures, and developing a common approach for crisis situations. Both sides also worked to speed up response times in the event of large-scale cyberattacks.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt highlighted the importance of the drill, stating it would enhance the ability to counter major digital threats. He added that Germany and Israel now stand 'shoulder to shoulder for robust, secure defence systems.' The exercise follows a cybersecurity and defence agreement signed by the two countries in January, marking the first practical measure under that deal.
In addition to the drill, Germany and Israel are collaborating on a new project: the creation of a German Cyber Dome, modelled on Israel's existing defence system. This initiative aims to further integrate their cybersecurity efforts in the long term.
The Blue Horizon exercise sets a foundation for closer cyber defence ties between Germany and Israel. Future cooperation will include faster crisis responses and the development of shared defence structures. Both nations have signalled their commitment to expanding joint efforts in this area.
