Freight train brake failure disrupts Bremen–Hamburg rail services all day
Train services between Bremen and Hamburg-Harburg have faced major disruption since early Monday morning. A stranded freight train with brake failure has forced Metronom to reroute regional services, causing delays and cancellations. Passengers are being urged to check for updates before travelling. The issues began at 9 a.m. on Labor Day when a freight train broke down on the line. Its brake failure left it stranded, blocking the route for other services. As a result, Metronom’s RE4 and RB41 trains have been diverted via Jesteburg instead of their usual path.
Replacement buses are now running between Hamburg-Harburg and Sprötze, with stops at Buchholz, Klecken, and Hittfeld. However, the recovery operation is still ongoing, and officials have not confirmed when normal service will resume. Delays are expected to last well into the late morning, with possible further disruptions later in the day.
Passengers have been advised to speak with onboard staff, listen for announcements, and use mobile apps or online platforms to check their connections. The exact duration of the line closure remains unclear. The stranded freight train continues to block the route, leaving travellers facing extended delays. Until the line reopens, replacement buses and diversions will remain in place. Passengers are reminded to verify their journey details before setting off.
