Ford slashes new car prices with employee discounts and $40K models
Ford has announced major steps to cut vehicle costs for customers. The move comes as new car prices soar, now averaging nearly $50,000—30% higher than in 2019. Meanwhile, President Trump’s new 25% tariff on European-made vehicles adds further pressure to the market.
Starting immediately, Ford will sell nearly all its new models at employee pricing until July 4. The company is also pushing to offer more vehicles under $40,000. Lease deals will range from $399 to $499 per month, with cheaper versions of popular models like the F-150 and Explorer now available.
To lower costs, Ford plans to produce more vehicles in America using affordable parts from global suppliers. CEO Jim Farley called affordability a key priority for the industry but did not address Trump’s tariffs directly. Instead, he highlighted the growing Chinese auto market as a major focus for expansion. The price cuts follow years of rising vehicle costs, which have climbed sharply since 2019. Ford’s strategy aims to make its lineup more accessible by expanding lower-priced options and simplifying production.
Ford’s discounts and new pricing strategy will run through the July 4 holiday. The company’s shift toward cheaper models and leases reflects broader industry concerns over affordability. With tariffs and high prices shaping the market, automakers are adjusting to keep vehicles within reach for more buyers.
