Helsing and Hensoldt Agree on Strategic Partnership - Europe's New AI-Powered Combat Drone Takes Flight with Hensoldt-Helsing Alliance
A new strategic alliance between German defence firms Hensoldt and Helsing aims to push forward military technology in Europe. Their first joint project, the CA-1 Europa, is an AI-powered autonomous combat aircraft designed to enhance European defence capabilities. The partnership also involves other major European companies, including Kongsberg, Airbus Defence and Space, and MTU Aero Engines.
The CA-1 Europa will feature advanced sensor systems from Hensoldt, covering radar, optronics, self-protection, and electronic warfare. This integration aligns with the vision of Oliver Dörre, Hensoldt's CEO, who believes modern defence relies on the smart, networked use of sensors and artificial intelligence.
Beyond the aircraft, Hensoldt and Helsing are collaborating with Kongsberg to develop a satellite constellation by 2029. This system will support intelligence, surveillance, and target acquisition, further strengthening European military capabilities.
Gundbert Scherf, co-founder and co-CEO of Helsing, described the CA-1 Europa as a key element for credible European deterrence. Helsing has also stressed the importance of domestic arms production to maintain military sovereignty and operational superiority.
The alliance between Hensoldt and Helsing marks a significant step in European defence innovation. With the CA-1 Europa and future satellite projects, the partnership seeks to deliver advanced, AI-driven military solutions. Additional support from Kongsberg, Airbus Defence and Space, and MTU Aero Engines reinforces the project's broad industry backing.
