A specialised diving training complex in Aktau is preparing naval personnel for high-stakes operations in the Caspian Sea. Led by Lieutenant Zhambek Gazizov, the facility equips divers with the skills needed for fleet maintenance, accident response, and search-and-rescue missions. These operations play a vital role in ensuring maritime safety and security in the region. Gazizov joined the military in 2014 without prior training but has since risen to lead the diver instruction centre. His team now oversees a rigorous programme that combines classroom theory, controlled pool exercises, and demanding open-water drills. The facility itself meets modern standards, featuring advanced simulators to prepare divers for extreme conditions.

Divers in the Caspian handle a wide range of critical tasks, from inspecting ship hulls for damage to preventing accidents and conducting rescues. Each role demands specialised expertise, so training is carefully tailored to different units. Groups of no more than 12 personnel undergo courses lasting between one and four weeks, ensuring focused instruction. The work carries significant risks, requiring divers to maintain composure, discipline, and self-control at all times. Their training reflects this, with exercises designed to build both technical skill and mental resilience under pressure.

The Aktau complex continues to strengthen the capabilities of naval divers in the Caspian. Its structured programmes and modern equipment prepare personnel for the region’s unique challenges. These efforts directly support the safety of shipping, fleet operations, and emergency response across the sea.
