A new security initiative has rolled out at Düsseldorf Grand Central Station to improve safety for travellers and locals. Since March 4, coordinated patrols—dubbed SiBu patrols—have begun operating in and around the station. The scheme forms part of a wider push by Deutsche Bahn to strengthen security at 35 of Germany's busiest train hubs.

The patrols bring together officers from multiple agencies, including Düsseldorf Police Headquarters, the city's regulatory and service department, the Federal Police, and DB Security. Before launching, teams completed joint training to standardise procedures, communication, and roles. Their focus lies on prevention, maintaining a visible presence, and stepping in early to defuse potential issues.

The trial period runs for three months, covering not just the station itself but also nearby areas like Worringer Platz and Eisenstraße. If successful, the model could expand further. As of March 2026, 28 of the 35 targeted stations nationwide have already adopted similar cooperation patrols since the program's introduction two years ago.

Deutsche Bahn's emergency safety program aims to tackle rising concerns at high-traffic locations. By pooling resources and expertise, authorities hope to create a more secure environment for passengers and staff alike.

The initiative marks a shift toward closer collaboration between local and federal forces. With 28 stations already on board, the trial at Düsseldorf Grand Central Station will help assess the long-term impact of these patrols. Results from the three-month evaluation will determine whether the approach is extended to remaining hubs across the country.
