DSV boosts logistics with Exotec's robotic system in Venlo warehouse
DSV has installed Exotec’s Skypod robotic system at its logistics centre in Venlo, the Netherlands. The move aims to improve efficiency and expand capacity for the company’s retail clients. The facility now uses advanced automation to handle orders and returns at speed. The new system features around 100 autonomous robots working alongside approximately 90,000 bins and trays. It operates on a goods-to-person principle, delivering items directly to picking stations for fast and accurate order processing. An extra intermediate level is dedicated to returns, with automated functions for opening, closing, and labelling boxes.
DSV is rolling out automated storage and material handling systems across its centres. The Venlo installation is designed to standardise workflows and support future growth. It also allows the company to adapt to changing demand and product ranges from its diverse retail clients.
Exotec developed the Skypod system for logistics environments needing speed, precision, and scalability. Jan Heijblom, Senior Sales Executive at Exotec Benelux, confirmed his satisfaction in supporting DSV’s operations with this technology. The Venlo facility now combines robotic automation with dedicated returns processing. This setup is expected to increase efficiency and flexibility for DSV’s retail clients. The system’s design focuses on rapid, reliable order fulfilment and adaptability to market changes.
