Dresden Central Station launches joint patrols to enhance passenger safety
Deutsche Bahn and the German Federal Police will now conduct joint patrols at Dresden Central Station to enhance safety and cleanliness, the railway company announced. Each patrol will consist of two Federal Police officers and two employees from DB Security.
"Surveys show that passengers already feel very safe at Dresden Central Station—the station is bright, clean, and equipped with modern video surveillance, with security personnel visibly present," emphasized station manager Heiko Klaffenbach. "But we must continue improving safety. Our stations are our calling cards," he told the German Press Agency (dpa).
Rise in Violent Crimes Last Year
Both Deutsche Bahn's security division and the Federal Police significantly increased their patrols at the station in 2025, leading to a higher number of reported incidents. There were 170 cases of violent crime recorded, compared to 151 in 2024.
"Wherever our joint patrols operate—combining Federal Police and DB Security—there is always someone with the right authority," said Stephan John, regional director for Southeast Germany at DB Security. "This merges responsibilities under property law and criminal law, allowing us to act more effectively. The impact of these patrols is far greater."
Video Surveillance Enhances Sense of Security
"Safety at Dresden Central Station is not a static condition for us—it's a promise we renew every day," said Sebastian Reinke, deputy head of the Federal Police Inspection in Dresden. With passenger numbers rising in spring, the joint patrols ensure optimal preparedness. Advanced video surveillance not only fosters a reliable sense of security for travelers but also enables rapid response when needed.
Dresden Central Station is a key transport hub, serving over 60,000 passengers daily. More than 400 trains—primarily regional and S-Bahn services, along with long-distance ICE and IC connections—pass through the station each day.
