Novum Investment Management has launched Doris, a new investment platform designed to turn cautious savers into confident investors. The technology, backed by a UK local government pension fund, aims to simplify investing by offering clear risk controls. Over 10 million people in the UK currently avoid investing due to fears over potential losses.

The government has welcomed the move as part of its broader push to encourage investment over saving. Lord Stockwood, Minister for Investment, highlighted the role of fintech in making markets more accessible to everyday savers.

Doris uses patent-pending technology to bring institutional-grade investment strategies to retail users. Investors can set strict risk limits before committing funds, reducing uncertainty. The platform also connects individuals to global exchange-traded options while keeping downside risks clearly defined.

Mark Davies, co-founder of Novum, explained that Doris was developed to address the barrier of perceived risk that stops many from investing. The system removes complexity, offering a straightforward and transparent experience for first-time investors.

The project has already gained institutional support. A UK local government pension fund provided equity investment to help scale the technology. This backing aligns with the government's growth strategy, which encourages pension funds to invest in domestic fintech and innovation.

Samantha Niblett MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Fintech, praised Novum's approach. She noted that the technology gives investors greater control over risk, making it easier for more people to enter the market.

Doris arrives as part of a wider effort to shift behaviour from saving to investing. The platform's risk-controlled approach could appeal to the millions hesitant about market volatility. With pension fund backing and government support, its launch marks a step toward expanding retail investment in the UK.
