Deutsche Bahn is upgrading its service between Dortmund and Oberstdorf with a new ICE L train. The modern replacement for the old Intercity route will bring more comfort for travellers. Alongside this, four stations in the Allgäu region are also being prepared for barrier-free access.

The old Intercity service linking Dortmund and Oberstdorf will soon be retired. In its place, Deutsche Bahn will introduce a faster and more comfortable ICE L train. Passengers can expect better seating and improved facilities throughout the carriages.

To ensure smooth boarding, platforms in Kempten, Immenstadt, Blaichach, and Sonthofen are being raised to 76 centimetres. This adjustment will allow step-free access to the new train. The upgrade will also make travelling with luggage far easier. Deutsche Bahn has not yet confirmed how long the platform construction will take. However, the changes are necessary before the ICE L service begins operation.

The new ICE L train will offer a more comfortable journey on the Dortmund–Oberstdorf route. With higher platforms at four key stations, boarding will become quicker and more accessible. The improvements aim to enhance travel for both regular commuters and holidaymakers.
