NVV Criticizes Rail Chaos on Main-Weser Line - Deutsche Bahn's Frankfurt-Kassel route descends into travel chaos amid construction

The North Hessian Transport Association (NVV) has slammed Deutsche Bahn over severe disruptions on the Frankfurt-Kassel route. Passengers face major delays, overcrowded trains, and cancellations—particularly between Schwalmstadt-Treysa and Kassel. The NVV has called the current situation 'unacceptable' and is pushing for urgent solutions.

Construction work between Kassel and Frankfurt began on 6 March and is set to last until 27 March 2026. Deutsche Bahn planned rerouting for ICE line 26 via Fulda, skipping stops at Wabern, Treysa, Marburg (Lahn), and Gießen. Regional trains (RE30) were replaced by buses (RE30E), with extra weekend services promised.

Since the work started, the NVV reports widespread chaos. Trains run dangerously over capacity, with some passengers left stranded at stations. Delays and partial cancellations have become routine, leaving commuters frustrated. Earlier this month, Deutsche Bahn had already warned of cancellations, offering replacement buses and alternative train routes. Yet the NVV insists these measures have failed to prevent the current crisis. The association is now in talks with the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) and DB InfraGo to find a fix. The NVV is demanding immediate action from DB InfraGo to end what it calls 'intolerable conditions'. Their goal is to restore a reliable, predictable service for affected travellers.

The disruptions will continue until at least 27 March, with no quick resolution in sight. The NVV's negotiations with RMV and DB InfraGo aim to ease delays and overcrowding. Until then, passengers on the Frankfurt-Kassel route face ongoing travel difficulties.
