Deutsche Bahn's 2027 railway overhaul brings major closures and upgrades
Deutsche Bahn has announced major modernisation work on two key railway lines in 2027. The upgrades aim to improve punctuality and reliability on busy routes. Passengers will face significant disruptions as a result. The railway line between Lehrte and Berlin will close completely for ten months. Work will run from 5 February to 10 December 2027, affecting the entire 227-kilometre route. During this time, switches, tracks, and noise barriers will be replaced.
The Bremen-Bremerhaven line is also set for a full closure and renovation in the same year. Deutsche Bahn will soon release details about the construction plans and alternative transport arrangements. The closures will allow for extensive upgrades to infrastructure. Once finished, the improvements should enhance service quality on these heavily used routes. Travellers are advised to plan ahead once further information is available.
